How to Cure Your Torpedo Mate (Leather-Wrapped)
Curing your mate helps seal the inside and remove any bitterness from the gourd. Here's how to do it right:

1. Fill halfway with used yerba
After you've had a few mates, save the used yerba and place it inside the new gourd.

2. Add warm (not boiling) water
Pour warm water to moisten the yerba. Don’t use boiling water—it can damage the gourd or the leather.

3. Let it sit for 24–48 hours
Leave the wet yerba in the mate for a day or two. This helps soften the inside and start the curing process.

4. Rinse and gently scrape
Empty the gourd, rinse with warm water, and use a spoon to gently scrape out loose bits of inner pulp or debris.

5. Repeat if needed
If it's your first leather mate, it might need 2–3 cycles like this to be fully cured.

6. Let it dry naturally
Once cleaned, leave it upside down to dry in a cool, well-ventilated spot. Avoid direct sunlight.

Tip: Never use soap or chemicals—just warm water and a spoon.
